[Podcast] Seven Olympic athletes take one-way ticket from Cameroon to London

Seven Olympic athletes from Cameroon have been missing for several days. None of them have applied for asylum at this point and they all have valid visas which would allow to legally remain in Britain for six months. There is wide speculation the athletes have no plans to return to Cameroon. Innocent Chia, a former journalist for Cameroon state television and Richard Joseph, a professor of political science who has written about Cameroon, explain what might have driven these athletes from their homeland. Good stuff my dear friend. However; don't you think some of the issues you addressed are global issues? I am sure 4 billion people across the world will move for economic reasons if they had the means to. We saw how a many people left States like Ohio and Michigan for example as a result of the recent US recession and people have always moved from State to State for economic reasons. Mexico has a democracy but people are still leaving Mexico to seek a better life in the United States. That's just Human nature. Whenever I debate with you I always try to provide suggestions and ideas which might be helpful and to bring some balance the debate. Given that a host of Global poverty and economic issues are Global in nature. I will suggest that least 50% of raw materials extracted in any developing country must be transformed to its final stage in that country. This cannot be done by the host country alone because of its complexity.

Level-headed responses, Mr Chia & Prof Joseph! No emotions attached, just the reality! It is unfortunate to remark that many people always concentrate on the symptoms and effects and not the causes. I am glad there are few who can articulate these causes in any arena without blinking. We can't afford to relent!
