Bakweri Names of Months ("i-mbgwe-nde ja loova")

mbgwende = a lunar month/calendar month.
Mbgwenda a Lova = a lunar month.
Lova = The Creator; Lova = the sky; o-lova = high up in the sky.

Mbanje = January
Derived from the word “mbanja” = splints. Mbanje: Literally = A period in the dry season when leaves that fall from trees are in a way dry as splints, particularly splints from the trunks of raffia palms. January.

Likunde, Liwumbe, Liyemba, Nyongo

(i). Likunde. Honour your father and your mother.
e-Mokpwe says that people who disregard this commandment are sooner or later afflicted by likunde, that is, suffer startling recurring defeats, failures, humiliations, misfortunes, disappointments. Examples:

Defeats of a wrestling champion by apparent nonentities in wrestling.
Problems at job site.
Dwindling business.
Bullets from a gun fired by a renowned hunter – a marksman, failing to hit wildlife even when shots are fired at close range. Where there is likunde when bullets strike an animal the animal will run and hide in an inaccessible spot.
